About Us

Introduction

The Hutt Valley Shooters Association began it’s formation in 2013. Founding members constitute the majority of larger shooting organisations in the Wellington region along with the LHCC, and national shooting bodies Pistol New Zealand and New Zealand Service Rifle.

Shooting sports in Wellington have long struggled to establish a universal complex for the region. Shooting has a vast array of different disciplines which has been part of the challenge in finding a property that can provide the safe pursuit of most styles while all utilizing the same area of land.

With the opportunity of leasing the old Wainuiomata landfill site, the reality of such a complex became apparent. A group of Wellington shooting clubs with the vision of establishing a multi-use facility that will also provide supervised and structured public access formed the HVSA early in 2015 with a combined membership of well over 1500 members, many with national and international competition experience.

Formed under a Sportsville model, and with the support of the Wainuiomata Community board the purpose of the HVSA is to provide governance and development of the Wainuiomata landfill site as a regional shooting complex capable of providing local, national and international events. Part of our charter is to also provide public access days that are staffed by qualified range officers drawn from the member organizations so as to provide Wellington shooters with a safe, controlled environment to practise and zero their firearms.
